We had a fun getaway this past weekend! We have friends from my grandparents’ church that are missionaries in the next region over, and we got to visit with them from Friday
until Monday. Jonathan picked us up on Friday afternoon and brought us back this morning. We had fun hanging out, sightseeing, going to church, and eating very well.
We drove to the beach. We experienced a Ukrainian market on a busy Saturday morning
. Heather whipped up some favorites from home throughout the weekend, including baked chicken, pizza, and spaghetti. We were introduced to the Wiggles and other children’s TV shows. They took us to their favorite restaurant,
The Potato House, where we had delicious burritos. We played with their daughters, Maya & Sasha. And they even had a cake and gifts for me on Saturday night for my birthday! It was a great weekend and a nice way to break up our time here since we can’t really visit the orphanage on weekends.
Sunday was an especially great day as we had the opportunity to join them at their church. It is clear that God is at work in Ukraine, and it was so good to be able to fellowship with other believers, even if we didn’t always know what was being said!

We're including pictures of the Orthodox church in the town, the yummy burritos at the Potato House, the market, a view of Berdansk from the peninsula, and us at the Sea of Azov.

Please keep the Powell family and their ministry in your prayers.

And please continue to pray for our court date, which will be tomorrow afternoon. God has blessed our journey so far, and we pray that He will continue to do so, so that the 3 of us can get home soon! If all goes well, we may be able to post his picture here on Thursday!!

Land where meat sits in large piles? Must be amazing..
Yeah! You posted! So glad to hear everything is going well and that you have a support system there in country. We will be praying for court to smoothly. Can't wait to see your son!
What a blessing to have friends to spend some time with!
What a beautiful place to spend your time.
I saw pictures of a market that looked exactly like this in the Lugansk region that a friend of mine took in October of this year.
Praying that court goes smoothly and quickly.
What a great weekend! It looks like tons of fun! I'm hoping we can connect with some missionaries from our denomination while we are there. It would be great to see what their needs are and be able bring that list back to our church.
We'll be praying for you as you go to court tomorrow. I can't wait to see a picture of your little guy! ;)
It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. How nice to meet with friends and to experience a bit of life outside the adoption process. It's especially great that you had the chance to worship with them. I'm sure that lifted your spirits.
You'll be in my prayers as you prepare for court. I'm sure it will go well.
Thanks for posting so many photos. It's a great way to get a sense of the country.
We are thinking of you guys. Your court date should be over by now and hopefully you will be able to post pictures of Little Guy soon!! We hope you all have a Happy and Unforgettable Thanksgiving!!!

So good to hear that you had such a great weekend. I am glad you found some familiar faces there. We are praying for your court date today. Hopefully you are already finished with that and on to the next step by now. Can't wait to see pictures. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Sounds like you had a terrific weekend. Boy, does that burrito look delicious!
Missionaries love visitors!!! Thanks for encouraging them on the field. And that burrito looks so awesome! No mexican food in Germany:(
It is so exciting to read about your incredible journey to get your son. We can't wait to see his picture and meet him in person. Know you are in our prayers.

I've read your blog a few times, from the link on Mark and Courtney's. I came over today since I knew you were in Ukraine and wanted to see how everything was going. I was so excited to see you were able to visit with Jonathon and Heather! I spent a summer as a missionary intern with them in their first year in Ukraine (pre-kids) when they were in Melitopol (and also enjoyed some of Heather's American cooking!) I hope the rest of the details and travels home are all uneventful. Congratulations!
